Here it is, one of the staples of Hong Kong, Cantonese, and virtually all Asian cuisines, but this time with an Impossible™ Burger twist. Fried rice is cooked and served all over Asia and is a standard part of street food menus for billions of people.

It's also an ancient recipe. The first record of fried rice being served was during the sixth century in the Sui Dynasty. It’s easy to see why this dish has lasted so long and is so immensely popular. Fried rice is a savory, filling and comforting food and can serve as a meal in itself or as a side dish.

First, we suggest marinating the Impossible Burger for at least 20 minutes in the marinade described below. You’ll need two kinds of oil: vegetable oil and sesame oil.

The other key when making this dish is to thoroughly wash the rice before cooking. This may sound picky, but trust us—it will lead to much fluffier rice. Careful washing like this gets rid of any debris and the surface starch. When you first start doing this you’ll notice the draining water is cloudy, but by the end, the water is clear.

Washing out the surface starch and debris means you’ll get cooked rice that isn’t gummy, but fluffy and tastier.

Between the Impossible Burger and the three eggs, you’ll have a protein-rich and savory dish that’s delicious and easy to make.

How to prepare

Step 1: MARINATE THE IMPOSSIBLE BURGER

Combine Impossible Burger with marinade ingredients and mix well. Let it sit for 20 minutes.

Step 2: PREP YOUR INGREDIENTS

Break up the cooked rice and set aside. Cooked rice can be prepared one day ahead. Cut the lettuce and spring onion into strips. Crack the eggs* in a bowl, beat the eggs and set aside. *Make it 100% plant-based by omitting the eggs!

Step 3: COOK THE IMPOSSIBLE BURGER

Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a frying pan over medium high heat. Crumble in Impossible Burger and sauté for about 5 minutes until lightly brown. Transfer to a plate, and set aside.

Step 4: COOK THE FRIED RICE

Heat 3 tablespoons of oil in a frying pan over high heat. Add in beaten eggs and stir fry until cooked. Add in the cooked rice and stir well, then add in the cooked Impossible Burger. Stir fry constantly until the meat is brown and broken apart, and rice no longer sticks together. Add in shredded lettuce and season with salt. Stir fry quickly until well combined, don't overcook the lettuce or the texture will become watery.
