To honor Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, and highlight the diversity and deliciousness of AAPI heritage, we are excited to share delicious Asian plant-based recipes contributed by our very own Impossible Foods team members! Beverly joined the Product Development Commercialization team at Impossible Foods back in 2019. She enjoys hiking, taking photos, and camping in her spare time.

Beverly describes Rou Zhao Fan 肉燥飯 as “a simple, comfort food that is popular in Taiwan. It is a savory and slightly sweet dish consisting of braised pork over rice.” She made this version with Impossible™ Burger instead of pork, and gives us a tip on how to gauge the cooking oil temperature. She says, “you can tell if the oil is hot enough by dipping a wooden spoon or chopsticks into it and see if the oil begins to bubble steadily.” Thanks for the tip on how to fry the shallots for this recipe, Beverly!

  • 12 Ounce Package Impossible Burger
  • 1/4 Cup Vegetable Oil
  • 3-4 large shallots, sliced thinly
  • 2 Tablespoons Soy Sauce
  • 2 Tablespoons rock sugar or white sugar
  • 3/4 Tablespoon Ground White Pepper
  • 1-2 green onions
  • Cooked Rice

  1. Cook Impossible Burger

    Heat vegetable oil in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Add thinly sliced shallots and fry until lightly golden. Remove sliced shallots from the oil using chopsticks, a skimmer, or tongs. Add Impossible Burger to the saucepan and stir fry until it is almost fully cooked (little to no pink remaining). Mix in soy sauce, rock sugar, ground white pepper, and stir to combine. Continue to saute the mixture for another 5 minutes. If the mixture looks too dry, add a little splash of water.

  2. Serve and Enjoy

    Serve over rice and top with fried shallots and green onions.
