Talk about comfort food—here’s the Impossible Foods take on the traditional Country Fried Hamburger recipe, and man is it good! This is the kind of meal that's just what the doctor ordered after a long, stressful week. Country Fried Impossible™ Burger nuggets, creamy gravy, and maybe some mashed potatoes or broccoli on the side? Heaven.

We’ve even designed the recipe so you can make it entirely plant-based if you choose. Buttermilk can be substituted with oat milk, and you can use plant-based butter as a substitute for regular butter.

A little bit of planning ahead is helpful for this recipe. There are 18 ingredients and you’re completing three main steps: making Impossible Burger nuggets, making gravy, and then deep frying.   • 12 Ounces Impossible Burger
  • 1 Teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Paprika
  • 1/2 Teaspoons Cayenne
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt
  • 10 Ounces Buttermilk (or oat milk)
  • 10 Ounces Hot Sauce (Pick Your Favorite)
  • 2 Cups All Purpose Flour
  • 1 Cup Semolina
  • 1 Tablespoon Butter (use plant-based butter as a substitute)
  • 1 Tablespoon AP Flour
  • 1 Cup Vegetable Stock
  • 3 Leaves Fresh Sage
  • 1/2 Cup Heavy Cream (or oat milk)
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Fresh Cracked Black Pepper

  • 32 Ounces Canola or Vegetable Oil

  1. PREPARE THE IMPOSSIBLE BURGER

    Ingredients used

    • 12 Ounces Impossible Burger
    • 1 Teaspoon Garlic Powder
    • 1 Teaspoon Onion Powder
    • 1 Teaspoon Paprika
    • 1/2 Teaspoons Cayenne
    • 1/2 Teaspoon Black Pepper
    • 1 Teaspoon Salt

    Using your hands, mix Impossible Burger with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cayenne, black pepper, and salt until well incorporated. Form into nuggets (approximately 2" x .5") and arrange on a plate to get ready for the buttermilk wash.

  2. PREPARE THE BUTTERMILK WASH

    Ingredients used

    • 10 Ounces Buttermilk (or oat milk)
    • 10 Ounces Hot Sauce (Pick Your Favorite)

    Whisk together the buttermilk (use oat milk to make it completely plant-based) and hot sauce until well incorporated.

  3. PREPARE THE COATING

    Ingredients used

    • 2 Cups All Purpose Flour
    • 1 Cup Semolina

    Whisk together the AP flour and semolina until well incorporated.

  4. COOK THAT GRAVY

    Ingredients used

    • 1 Tablespoon Butter (use plant-based butter as a substitute)
    • 1 Tablespoon AP Flour
    • 1 Cup Vegetable Stock
    • 3 Leaves Fresh Sage
    • 1/2 Cup Heavy Cream (or oat milk)
    • 1/2 Teaspoon Fresh Cracked Black Pepper
    • 1 common:to Taste Salt

    In a sauce pan over medium heat, melt butter (use plant-based butter as a substitute). Whisk in flour and stir until well incorporated. Continuing to stir, add in vegetable stock a little at a time. This should continue to thicken as it cooks. Add in heavy cream (use oat milk to make it completely plant-based) slowly, continuing to stir. Once desired consistency is acheived, add in fresh sage. Reduce heat to low for 5-6 minutes. Remove sage. Season with fresh cracked black pepper and salt to taste.

  5. DUNK THAT IMPOSSIBLE

    Ingredients used

    • 32 Ounces Canola or Vegetable Oil

    Dunk the seasoned Impossible nuggets into the buttermilk wash, then into the flour mix, coating evenly. Set aside for frying.

  6. INTO THE POOL

    In a 5 quart sauce pot, heat 32oz (1 qrt) canola or vegetable oil to 350F. Lower battered & breaded Impossible nuggets into hot oil, rotating evenly until golden brown. Remove and place onto a paper towel lined plate to absorb any excess oil.

  7. SERVE, SHARE AND ENJOY

    Season immediately with salt & pepper and serve with Black Pepper Gravy on the side.
