Here’s another classic Cantonese side dish that we’ve given the Impossible™ Burger treatment. Our version takes this standard side and moves it to the center of the meal. The addition of Impossible Burger makes this a delicious and protein-rich main dish. Priority one: get the right beans. When you’re shopping for the ingredients, you’ll want to make sure you don’t get just any old green beans. Look for French green beans, which are often called Haricot Verts (and now you know the French word for green beans). These beans are longer and skinnier than regular green beans. They may be slightly more expensive, but it's worth it for this recipe. French green beans are picked when they are younger and are considered to be more tender and flavorful. They’re also not as prone to being stringy. The other ingredient worth noting here is white pepper. White pepper and black pepper are basically the same thing. They are both berries from a pepper plant. The difference is that black pepper berries are picked while still unripe and then allowed to dry. White pepper uses the same berries, but are picked when ripe and soaked in water for 10 days. The skins (with their more volatile flavors) are removed. This yields berries that are milder and less complex in flavor. The beans are cooked first in a hot dry pan, and then removed from the pan. The Impossible Burger is then cooked in the same pan with oil. The beans are then added back, along with the seasoning mix. The seasoning is quite delicious and will make the entire dish explode with flavor. Be sure to use rice wine and sesame oil. Both of these are great staples to have in your refrigerator or pantry, so stock up. This is an easy dish to make, and with Impossible Burger it becomes a hearty main course.
