Beef & Broccoli is one of those classic meals that’s dependable, balanced, and now, because it’s cooked with Impossible meat—made from plants, better for your health and the earth. This Impossible "Beef" & Broccoli recipe calls for Chinese broccoli, which is slightly different from its better-known broccoli-relatives, like broccolini, broccoli rabe, and the good old traditional broccoli you’d find in any respectable salad bar. You can absolutely use any of those alternatives in this recipe and it will turn out delicious. But for those who haven’t tried it, Chinese broccoli, which is also known as gai-lan, kai-lan, or Chinese kale, has larger, flatter leaves, thick stems, and smaller florets than your everyday broccoli. Chinese broccoli also has a bit of a stronger, more bitter taste that is a perfect complement to the flavors in this recipe and the juiciness of Impossible Beef, creating a satisfying plant-based meal that’s sure to be a hit. For the final seasoning, as you’re ready to plate this dish, we suggest reaching for the all-purpose Japanese Togarashi spice mix, which is usually a 7-spice blend that includes ingredients like toasted white sesame seeds, toasted black sesame seeds, Szechuan peppercorns, dried nori (seaweed), dried tangerine or orange peel, chili powder, and toasted poppy seeds or ginger. This recipe can be adjusted to the heat level you’re comfortable with and can be served over steaming rice noodles or steamed rice. Enjoy!
