WE NEED YOUR VOTE
2020 is the most important election of this generation’s lifetime. With voter turnout on the decline, it is imperative that we all get out to the voting booths. In every election cycle, there's a lot of attention on who voted and why, but a more critical question is “who is not voting — and what impact does that have?” VoteNik was created to spur voter turnout and propel larger digital conversations about the voting process.

ABOUT VOTENIK
Due to COVID-19 social distancing restrictions in many local jurisdictions, VoteNik is a largely digital campaign where we will come together to ignite conversation and collectively motivate a historic voter turnout in November. Beginning on September 22, VoteNik will launch a series of six digital events culminating on November 3, Election Day. Each Zoom call will be hosted by community leaders and activists, and will also feature a surprise celebrity guest! Whoever said talking about voting isn't the best party around has never been on one of these calls. With issues at stake ranging from education access to climate policy, livable wages, gun violence reform, criminal justice reform, healthcare access, immigration and LGBTQIA rights, the future of our democracy depends on making your voice heard.

A LITTLE HISTORY
The term “VoteNik” is a wordplay on an annual spring break festival in Atlanta, Georgia, primarily attended by students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities(HBCUs). Begun in 1983 as a small picnic near the Atlanta University Center, the event increased in size and popularity in the 1990s, incorporating dance contests, concerts, parties, a basketball tournament, rap sessions, a film festival and a job fair. The Atlanta magazine called it Atlanta's most infamous street party.
